From Roastery to Cup: The Hometown Coffee Story
Share
Hi, I'm Keith Showalter, and I'd like to share the story of how Hometown Coffee came to be.
A Farmer's Side Hustle
I'm a farmer here in Dayton, Virginia, and like many people, I picked up a new hobby during 2020—roasting coffee. What started as a simple pastime in my shop quickly became something much more meaningful. There's something special about taking green coffee beans and transforming them into something that brings people joy with every sip.
When Hobby Became Business
As I experimented with different roasting techniques and coffee origins, I started sharing my roasts with friends and family. Before long, people weren't just enjoying the coffee—they were asking to buy it. The requests kept coming, and I realized there might be something here worth pursuing.
So I took a chance. I invested in a small commercial coffee roaster and officially launched Hometown Coffee. It was a leap of faith, but one rooted in the same values as farming: hard work, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality.
Our Mission
At Hometown Coffee, our goal is simple: to deliver a special cup of coffee to our local community and beyond. Every batch is carefully roasted to bring out the unique characteristics of the beans, with our primary source being the exceptional coffee from the Huila region of Colombia.
We're not just selling coffee—we're sharing a passion. Each bag represents hours of learning, experimenting, and perfecting the craft of roasting. And because we're a small operation here in Dayton, VA, we can give every batch the personal attention it deserves.
From Our Roastery to Your Cup
Whether you're a longtime coffee enthusiast or just beginning to explore specialty coffee, we're here to help you discover something exceptional. We source quality beans, roast them with care, and deliver them fresh so you can experience coffee the way it's meant to be enjoyed.
Thank you for supporting this farmer's side hustle and being part of the Hometown Coffee journey. Here's to many more great cups together!
